HISTORY OF GOODRO LUMBER
Goodro Lumber's story begins nearly a century ago, in 1930, when Harry and Mildred Goodro purchased a sawmill in East Middlebury, VT. The mill produced custom-sawn lumber used primarily for furniture.
Goodro's retail building supply business began twenty years later in 1950. Over the next twenty years, Goodro's retail business activities outgrew the sawmill business. By the time Harry retired in 1969, the sawmill had been closed, and he left the retail building supplies business to his son Rodney and his son-in-laws, Richard Perry and Wyman Thomas.
In 1983, the next generation of Goodro descendants, brother and sister Mark and Cindy Thomas, joined with long-time employee, Dennis Charron to purchase the family business. Richard Miller subsequently joined as a partner in 1985, remaining until 2009.
The next chapter was written in 2010, when long-time employees Ron Warner and Tim Comes partnered with Mark and Cindy to manage the business, ensuring that Goodro Lumber Company would continue to offer excellent customer service, quality materials, and lasting value.
Finally, in 2024, Goodro Lumber was purchased by James Burgess and Andrew Noh, long-time business partners who sought to bring new energy and a hands-on approach to running the business. With a focus on maintaining the company's long-standing reputation for reliability and service, they introduced updates to improve day-to-day operations, including better inventory tracking, delivery coordination, and customer support systems. While continuing to serve contractors and homeowners across Vermont, their goal has been to build on Goodro Lumber’s strong foundation and keep the lumberyard locally rooted and dependable for years to come.
